Leaf collection continues through January

The City of Morganton Public Works Dept. collects leaves from October through January at no extra charge to residents. After January, loose leaves will be picked up for a $25.00 fee.

City Hall closed New Year's Day

December 28, 2012

Morganton City Hall will be closed Tuesday Jan. 1, 2013, in celebration of New Year's Day.

Garbage collection schedules will be affected. Garbage collection on Monday Dec. 31 will be on regular schedule. Routes for the rest of the week will be delayed by one day. Tuesday's route will be collected Wednesday; Wednesday's route will be collected Thursday; Thursday's route will be collected Friday.

 

Don't miss the tax payment deadline

December 27, 2012

Remember, Jan. 7, 2013 is the last day to pay your City of Morganton taxes and avoid a 2% penalty, which will be added to your bill Jan. 8, 2012. Property tax payments postmarked by the US Postal Service on or before Jan. 7, 2013 will be accepted as on time.

Project WARM offers a way for neighbors to help neighbors

Project WARM - Weather Assistance Resources for Morganton - is a partnership started in 1987 between the City of Morganton and Burke United Christian Ministries (BUCM). The purpose of Project WARM is to provide citizens a way to pool donations to help families in need.

Generator delivery will likely cause some traffic delays

The City of Morganton Water Treatment plant will take delivery of a large generator Tuesday Dec. 18, 2012, and residents should expect delays along the delivery route as the shipping company moves the equipment through Burke County.

More shops sign on for new shopping center

The new Morganton Heights shopping center on Fleming Drive is still on schedule, and more stores are planning to move into the new location. City Development and Design Director Lee Anderson said the primary tenants will open this summer starting in July.

Unifour septic program to begin door-to-door consultation

wpcog-logoThe Western Piedmont Council of Governments' Unifour Septic System Program was awarded a $433,000 grant to identify failing residential septic systems and to provide financial assistance to homeowners to repair systems in the region. The funding was provided through North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund, therefore the program is not focused on financial assistance but on protecting surface drinking water supplies and ultimately public health.
