NCDOT Exit 104 construction plans

ncdot-75pxPreparation underway for NCDOT construction at Exit 104 on Enola Road

Utility line preparation for construction at Exit 104 on Enola Road has started, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation is expected to start construction in the spring. City staff have prepared a simplified plan so residents can compare the current  Exit 104 interchange with the future interchange.

Alice Tan Ridley in Concert this friday at CoMMA!

Alice Tan Ridley will take the stage at CoMMA this Friday Jan. 27, 2012. Ridley was raised along with her 9 siblings in Georgia. She has been a singer her entire life and loves just making people feel good. She began singing in New York subway stations stopping people on their commutes to and fro. Ridley has a heart as big as her music and early on was a teacher for handicapped students, but had to relinquish her duties to live out her dreams as a recording artist. Because of her boisterous subway singing she became a huge YouTube sensation and eventually competed on the hit television program America's Got Talent.

NCDOT Awards $2 Million to resurface roads in Burke County

ncdot-75pxThe N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to resurface more than 14 miles of roads in Burke County. The $2 million contract was awarded to Maymead Inc. of Mountain City, Tenn. Work can begin as early as March 15 and is scheduled for completion by Oct. 15, 2012.

NCDOT to close section of I-40 East in Catawba County nightly

ncdot-75pxThe N.C. Department of Transportation started overnight closures of I-40 East in Catawba County Monday Jan. 16, for concrete pavement grooving, weather permitting. The closures will extend through Conover from Exit 130 to Exit 133 starting at 9 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the next morning.

Garbage collection this week, Jan. 16 - 20, is on a one-day delay. Monday's route will be collected today, Tuesday on Wednesday, Wednesday on Thursday and Thursday on Friday.

 

Catawba River Basin returns to normal conditions

January 13, 2012

The Catawba-Wateree River Basin is starting 2012 off in normal conditions after plentiful rainfall during the last several months improved the overall water supply in the basin. The Catawba-Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group (CW-DMAG) today announced Thursday Jan. 12, 2012, that the 4,750 square-mile basin has improved to "Stage 0" of the Low Inflow Protocol (LIP), which means the basin is no longer in a drought.
