Electrician - Electric Dept.

The City of Morganton is seeking applicants for the position of Electrician.

This position is responsible for performing technical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical fixture, wiring, equipment and components. Work is seen at the journey level and is performed in accordance with state building codes and trade standards. Employee is subject to hazards associated with electrical work including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme temperatures, and exposure to various hazards such as working at heights, loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, confined spaces, poor ventilation, and oils.

Duties include: installs, maintains, alters and repairs wiring, electrical devices, machinery, and equipment, including electric system load management equipment, traffic control lights, lights at ball fields, electrical metering equipment, electrical equipment in offices, and electrical installations for special events.

Graduation from high school supplemented by technical training in electrical principles and considerable experience in a skilled electrical trade; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The applicant must possess an electrical contractor's license and a NC commercial driver's license.

Salary range is $31,412 - $47,118

Assistant City Manager

Scope – Performs complex professional and administrative work within the structure of the City government. Assists the City Manager in research, inter-governmental relations, and the broad range of general administrative and management functions of City government. Hired by the City Manager and works closely with both the Manager and the 5-member City Council.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements – Bachelors Degree in public administration, business or a related area (Masters Degree preferred) with considerable (7 or more years) experience in management, research, budgeting and related public sector activities – or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.

Duties and Responsibilities – Assists the City Manager with a wide variety of management and intra-/inter-governmental-relations issues, special projects, research, problem-solving, and dealings with the public, agencies and various other groups. Coordinates and prepares special research reports regarding special projects which may be assigned by the City Manager or City Council. Reviews legislative activity for implications and impact to the City. Coordinates annual efforts with private lobbyists and serves as the City contact with legislative delegations. Researches and drafts policies for consideration/implementation by the City Manager and City Council. Represents the City and, along with the City Council, attends many local, regional and state meetings. Oversees the City's public relations and communication efforts, including supervising the Public Information Officer. Acts as liaison to the community, special interest and civic groups. Represents the City Manager at conferences and meetings as needed. In conjunction with the City's Finance Director and Human Resources Director, manages the City's self-insurance program including recommending rates, benefits and policy/policy changes for the program.

Other Requirements – Must have a thorough knowledge of the theories, principles and practice of municipal, budgetary and public administration. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City, state and national officials, City staff and the public. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing, and facilitate the legislative process, parliamentary procedure and open meetings. Must possess the ability to analyze complex political and administrative problems/data/trends/costs and be able to make sound and comprehensive recommendations.

Salary Range – $79,375 - $119,063.
