Suspects Arrested in Copper Theft

On 05/01/2012 Morganton Public Safety Officers arrested a father and his son for stealing copper from the old Drexel Heritage plant #7.
On 05/01/2012 at approximetly 1248am, Morganton Public Safety received a call of a suspicious vehicle at the corner of White and Dixon St with the occupants believed to be possibly loading something into the vehicle. A description of the vehicle was given out. Upon searching the area for the vehicle it was located at 313 White St. The vehicles occupants were located inside the residence. Upon further investigation, it was found that two industrial size radiators were taken from the roof of the old Drexel Heritage plant #7 on E. Fleming Dr. The stolen radiators were located on the property at 313 White St.
The suspects in this case, William Thomas Carswell and his son, Thomas Jordan Brooks, admitted to taking the radiators, but claimed they found them on a wooden path that leads to the Drexel plant. After more investigation, it was determined the suspects cut the radiators from the HVAC units on the roof of the Drexel Plant and carried them down a wooded trail to the corner of White and Dixon St where they were picked up by a vehicle.
Thomas Brooks was charged with Felony Larceny and Felony Possession of Stolen Goods. William Carswell was charged with Felony Breaking and Entering and Larceny and Felony Possession of Stolen Goods. Both Carswell and Brooks received a $3000.00 secured bond and an initial court appearance on 05/01/2012.
