Public invited to learn about proposed zoning changes

TThe City of Morganton is writing new zoning regulations that will guide development in Morganton during the next 10 to 20 years. City staff is holding an informational workshop to explain the proposed regulations and to get input and feedback from the public. The informational workshop will be held from noon to 7:00 pm Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, in the City Council Chambers of City Hall.

Water Line Repair - September 3rd

Our water distribution crew will be making a waterline repair in the area of E. Union St. to Vinearden Rd.   The repair is planned to begin Wednesday morning September 3rd at 8am weather permitting. If bad weather delays the construction on September 3rd, work will start the next available day of good weather. It is anticipated that this repair could take up to 24 hours to complete. Some customers may be without water service during the time it takes for making the repair.

City Hall closed on Labor Day

Morganton City Hall will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, in observance of Labor Day. The Collett Street Recreation Center and Mountain View Recreation Center will also be closed. However, the Collett Street Outdoor Pool will be open for the last day of the season!

Garbage collection will be on a regular schedule. (Monday's route will be collected on Monday; Tuesday's on Tuesday, etc. There will be no delay.)

CDBG funds available for Non-Profits acting as subrecipient

The City of Morganton through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program has $23,000 available for Non-Profits acting as subrecipient to conduct activities to benefit low and moderate-income persons within the City limits of Morganton. Anyone  interested in submitting an application for these funds should contact Lisa Helton at (828) 485-4281. Applications will be received until 3:00 PM, Monday, October 20, 2014. Selected applicants will be required to execute a subrecipient agreement with the City of Morganton in accordance with sub-part 570.503 CFR.
