Public invited to learn about proposed zoning changes

TThe City of Morganton is writing new zoning regulations that will guide development in Morganton during the next 10 to 20 years. City staff is holding an informational workshop to explain the proposed regulations and to get input and feedback from the public. The informational workshop will be held from noon to 7:00 pm Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, in the City Council Chambers of City Hall.

Are you ready for a Revolutionary Weekend?

This Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, the Historic Burke Foundation and the Overmountain Victory Trail Association (OVTA) will present a "Revolutionary War Weekend" in Morganton. This Revolutionary Weekend will be held from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on the Old Burke County Courthouse and from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at the Charles McDowell House located at 119 St. Mary's Church Rd.

City repaints water storage tank

The City recently repainted a 3-million-gallon drinking water storage tank, a.k.a. "clearwell", at the Water Treatment Plant, and the project should extend the useful life of the tank.

Notice of possible quorum of City Council

The Morganton City Council has been invited to attend the Western Piedmont Council of Governments Policy Board Meeting on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Morganton Community House, 120 North King Street.

The Council has also been invited to attend a Water Supply Master Plan Meeting with HDR Engineering and the Catawba Wateree Water Management Group on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. in City Hall, Conference Room 4, 305 East Union Street, Suite A100.

It is possible a quorum of City Council may attend; however no action by Council will be taken. For more information, you may contact Sally Sandy, City Manager, at 438-5230 or Kelly Russell, Assistant City Clerk, at 438-5228.
