Business (Privilege) License
Each business located within the city limits of Morganton is required to maintain a current business license.

CoMPAS Cable/High Speed Internet
Applications for cable service are taken at the CoMPAS office at City Hall, 105 East Union Street, Suite A100. Applications must be accompanied by an installation fee, the first month's service in advance, a picture ID and social security number. Call 438-5353 for additional information.

Electric Service
There is no deposit required when purchasing a home. For residential rental properties, applications for electric service must be accompanied by a credit statement from the preceding service provider or a $100 deposit. To report a downed power line or other electric problem, call (828) 438-5277. City electric crews are on call 24 hours a day, seven days and week and will respond promptly.

Permits
FIRE INSPECTION and BURNING permits are available at the Morganton Department of Public Safety Headquarters, 304 College Street. Call (828) 438-5290 for additional information. BUILDING, ELECTRICAL, HVAC, ZONING and SIGN permits are available through Development and Design Services. Only a licensed contractor may obtain electrical, plumbing or HVAC permits. Trash Collection
The City's Public Works Department provides backyard collection of household trash weekly. Bagged leaves and yard waste are collected on Fridays. Rough trash is collected curbside weekly as crews and trucks are available. Some rough trash and unusual collections may incur a fee. Call (828) 438-5248 for additional information.
